Senior Spotlight: Deana Mancuso

 

The next senior to be highlighted in our Senior Spotlight is Basketball and Soccer player Deana Mancuso. Deana is the daughter of Anthony Mancuso and Lisa Yost. Deana is a four-year member of the Chargerettes Basketball program, where she wears the number 24. As a junior point guard last season, she averaged 9.4 points per game and 1.5 3-pointers per game. She will be back in action with her teammates in her third and final season as a starter-and fourth season seeing extensive playing time at the varsity level- on January 21 at Mid Valley, the opening game of the season. She is a valuable member of a team that returns all of its starters.

Deana Mancuso joined the Carbondale Area Girls Varsity Soccer team as a freshman, where she wore #26. Deana’s knowledge of the game combined with her agility and aggressiveness on the field earned her a starting spot on the team as an incoming freshman. As a multi-sport athlete Deana’s strong athletic ability was proven time and time again on the soccer field. In the Forward Position, Deana averaged 9 shots on goal per game and numerous assists. Over the course of her soccer career Deana contributed to 68% of the team’s overall shots on goal and 44% of the Chargerettes overall goals.

Deana has also excelled academically in her time at Carbondale Area. She ranks 6th in her class and has been a member of Academic Honors and the High Honor Roll every year since seventh grade. She is also the President of the National Honor Society. She maintains this level of academic excellence while also being involved in numerous clubs. She is a six-year member of Student Council and a four-year participant in the following: Spanish Club, Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS), Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD). She is a three-time state qualifier in FBLA and a two-time state qualifier in PJAS. Additionally, she is a two-year member of the Track & Field team and Prom Committee. She is a member of the Yearbook staff this year and is also a Physics Club tutor. She has also participated in the Watershed program. Deana is employed at McGee’s Tasty Freeze and Frank’s Place.

Deana, who also serves as the Secretary for the CA Class of 2021, plans to attend college and major in Biology-her favorite subject, with a focus on Pre-Medicine. Her goal is to attend medical school after graduation. Her favorite CA memories are the pep rallies and study halls in the library. The Carbondale Area School District congratulates Deana on her accomplishments thus far and wishes her the best of luck in her feature endeavors.
