Carbondale Area JSHS Announces Lance Gabriel as 2021 Commencement Speaker

Mr. Joseph Farrell, Carbondale Area Junior/Senior High School Principal, has announced that Lance Gabriel, Carbondale Area Class of 2008 and former basketball standout, is the 2021 Commencement Speaker for the graduation ceremony on June 11, 2021. Lance has had a very successful career to date in construction management, coordinating various projects involving sports, solar and renewable energy, health care, and commercial interiors. Upon his high school graduation, Lance earned a Bachelor’s of Architectural Engineering Degree from Penn State University. Following graduation in 2013, he worked for five years at Turner Construction in various Field Operations roles at their Miami Business Unit. While there, he was involved in the planning of the Jackson Health Rehab Center and NBC Universal-Telemundo World Headquarters – each project valued over $250 million. In 2018, he started a job at M.A. Mortenson Company in Las Vegas, Nevada where he is currently a Planning and Scheduling Manager. His project portfolio includes Edwards + Sanborn Solar, which is currently the world’s largest combination construction project for solar and battery energy storage – valued at over 900 million dollars. In addition, he was involved in the 1-billion-dollar renovation of the historic Seattle Center Coliseum (now Climate Pledge Arena) and the 1.8-billion-dollar construction of Allegiant Stadium, home to the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders. Lance has also spent time in Seattle, Washington and now lives in Los Angeles, California as a member of the Mortenson Company. The Carbondale Area School District is both proud of Lance and excited to have him as our guest speaker for this year’s commencement speaker.
