On October 21, 2025, Carbondale Area School District hosted its annual Career Exploration Day, connecting students with local opportunities and essential life skills. The event meaningfully engaged students from 7th to 12th grade through activities promoting future goals and community responsibility.
Students in the 7th and 8th grades dedicated their morning to community service, beautifying local sites like West Side Park, Russell Park, Main Street, and the Heritage Trail, and assisting the United Neighborhood Center. These activities fostered teamwork and community pride.
9th graders began at the Career Technology Center, exploring vocational programs. Their afternoon was spent in “Adulting 101” sessions, covering practical skills such as “things your parents do for you,” basic cooking, first aid, effective communication, and the effects of social media, preparing them for independent living.
10th-grade students took the ASVAB to measure career aptitudes, followed by attending various career presentations to gain insight into professional paths and required qualifications.
11th and 12th graders participated in tailored small-group sessions with diverse local professionals. Presenters shared their journeys and advice, giving upperclassmen a clearer vision of their post-secondary steps.
Students in 10th, 11th, and 12th grades answered survey questions about their Career Exploration Day Experience.
78% of students agreed or strongly agreed with the following statement:
“I have a better understanding of career options after high school graduation”.
69% of students agreed or strongly agreed with the following statement:
“I learned about careers I hadn’t considered before”.
81% of students feel more motivated to seek out job shadowing and co-op experiences after Career Exploration Day.
Caleb Buddie noted “I am honored to be part of a school that takes our future seriously.”
Carbondale Area School District’s Career Exploration Day successfully models the intersection of education, community, and career readiness, better equipping students for their futures and enhancing their community investment. The District is proud of its students’ dedication as they Charge into the Future! And a special thank you to all the presenters who made this a meaningful day for the students.
