On Monday, November 10, 2025, Carbondale Area Junior/Senior High School held its annual Veterans Day Assembly, which was dedicated to our service men and women who made great sacrifices for our country. Mr. Thomas Mauro, Carbondale Area Social Studies Teacher, organized the event with his AP U.S. History students.
Leila Maldonado welcomed all in attendance and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Collin Hollis and Thomas Seymour completed the Posting of Colors. The National Anthem was performed by members of the Advanced Chorus class, under the direction of Mrs. Gabriella Tolerico, Carbondale Area Music Teacher.
“Why We Honor Veterans” was explained by Rayne Stephenson, while Ella Casper read “Missing Man Table” and “Prisoners of War.” Gianna Perry and Madelena Zaccone discussed World War II, while Taylor Corrigan and Olivia Lawler explained the Vietnam War. The branches of the military were explained by Jakub Marecki (Army), William Murphy (Navy), Maureen Newcomb (Marine Corps), Aurora Esgro (Coast Guard), Aiden Mannis (Air Force), and Matthew Serkosky (Space Force).
Clara Crandall sang “If You’re Reading This,” Kayla Tighe sang “Heaven Was Needed a Hero,” Olivia Skeen and Kaitlyn Ryan sang “Traveling Soldier,” while Chloe Yoskowitz sang “American Honey.” Arianna Tiripicchio sang “Still Fighting the War” and was accompanied by Julian Fedorchak.
Mr. James Clancy, Carbondale Area High School Special Education Teacher, was the Guest Speaker, and provided remarks about the importance of Veterans Day. He was presented with a plaque by the students at the ceremony for his service.
To bring the ceremony to a close, Albion Nasufi played Taps during the Recess of Colors.
On behalf of the students and staff here at Carbondale Area, we thank the all the veterans, especially our local ones, for the sacrifices they made so we could enjoy the freedoms we experience today. Happy Veterans Day to all who have served this great nation!
