Senior Spotlight: Maureen Newcomb

 

Our next Senior Spotlight for the Carbondale Area Class of 2026 is three-sport captain Maureen “Maurie” Newcomb. Maurie is the daughter of Thomas and Rebecca (CA Class of 2001) Newcomb. She has one brother, Liam Fox-Newcomb, CA Class of 2020. Maurie is currently playing her third year of Varsity Soccer, where she serves as Goalkeeper. She is a four-year member of the Chargerettes Basketball team as a Point Guard/Shooting Guard and is a four-year member of the Softball team as a Utility Player. She is a member of PJAS, FBLA, Science and Technology Club, Spanish Club, Library Club, Math Club, Aveidum, SADD, History Club and Student Council. She has had the opportunity to participate in the Polar Plunge benefitting Special Olympics, Mikayla’s Voice which inspired inclusion, and has volunteered for a local food pantry as well as her church.

Maurie is currently employed in a co-op placement in Geisinger’s Radiology program. She enjoys spending time with her family, especially her little cousin Hazel, watching the New York Yankees and Notre Dame football, and also playing sports because she gets to have fun with her teammates. Her favorite CA memory is when she hit her first home run and her teammates crowded around home plate to celebrate. She plans to attend college and pursue a degree in Radiology. The Carbondale Area School District congratulates Maurie on her achievements thus far and wishes her the best of luck in her future endeavors.
