Our final Senior Spotlight for the Carbondale Area Class of 2025 is Valedictorian Hong Tran. Hong is the daughter of Tan Tran and Hien Nguyen. She has two sisters: Hailey Tran (6th Grade- CAES) and Heather Tran (4th Grade- CAES). She also has a younger brother, Hudson Tran. As a result of her academic achievements, Hong is a six-year member of Academic Honors, President of the National Honor Society, and was named an NEIU Scholar of the Year.
Hong has balanced her academics very well along with her involvement with several extracurricular activities. She is Secretary of the Future Teachers Club, where she tracks tutoring hours and serves as a peer tutor. She was a Mock Trial Team Captain, where she played an attorney role. She is Treasurer of the French Club, too. She is a two-year state qualifier for the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) and received a First Place Award at the state competition this past year. Hong placed 5th at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) competition and qualified for states her senior year. She is also a Scholastic Bowl Team Captain. She is also a member of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), Science and Technology Club, Medical Club, Physics Club (peer tutoring), Astronomy Club, Yearbook/Photography Club, and Library Club. She has also danced at Faith Ann Liuzzo’s School for the Performing Arts for seven years. Hong is also a babysitter.
Hong’s favorite subjects are Math and Science. Her favorite CA memory is the Dorney Park Senior Trip when everyone got drenched with rain during the first hour. She enjoys reading, spending time with friends and family, and watching television shows and movies. She plans to attend Temple University to major in Pharmacy. The Carbondale Area congratulates Hong on her achievements thus far and wishes her the best of luck in her future endeavors.
